Lost Memories reinalyn 94520K 6 month ago

- Taehyung's POV – I watched her from across the room. Her long brown hair trailed down her back and ended with small curls as she hummed along to the song that played in her ears. The mug of hot chocolate she made sat next to her on the desk, I glanced down at my empty mug then stood up. 'Hey, let’s go!' She turned around, pulled her earphones out and looked at me with her gray puppy dog eyes, 'Where are we going?' I closed her laptop and grinned, 'It's a surprise.' I took her hand and led her to the front door, she wrapped her scarf around her neck and I grabbed her coat, she extended her arms and I slipped on each sleeve. She wasn't bossy, I just liked doing things for her, as she did for me. I grabbed the keys off the front table and placed them in my pocket before I slipped my Vans on. She put on the Vans I had bought her for her 19th birthday, she picked up my gloves as well as hers, then took my hands and put them on me before she put on hers. I grabbed her hand and we both left the warmth and entered the cold air that now surrounded us. She was never the one to leave when it was cold, that's how I knew she loved me. I unlocked the car and we piled in, quickly turning on the heat. She reached out to the radio and switched it on, she liked any type of music and didn't mind what station it was on, so I got to choose the music every time. I backed out of the driveway with her bouncing lightly to the beat of the song that played on the radio, I smiled.'You know you're really childish, right?' I laughed. She stopped bouncing and gave me an 'excuse me?' look before continuing to bounce along with the beat, 'You're just not fun.' 'Hey! Yes I am! I'm fun!' I laughed, she closed her eyes pretending not to hear me and continued moving to the song. I snaked my hand over and grabbed hers, she accepted my hand but still playfully ignored me. Our gloved fingers linked and I rubbed her hand with my thumb. Moments passed and we had arrived at our destination. 'Okay, close your eyes.' I said as I playfully covered her eyes, she groaned and pulled my hand away. 'They're closed! I don't need your hand covering my face!' she laughed as the corners of her mouth rose to a smile. I helped her out of the car, grabbed the bag and my duck beanie from the back seat, and lead her towards a wide open space covered in ice. The stain layer of snow crunched beneath our feet with every step we took, our icy breaths swirled as we exhaled. The space was surrounded by tall trees making it almost impossible to be found. It was cold, but we kept each other close for warmth. 'I know where we are!' she said, excited. 'I guess that ruins the surprise then...' 'But...why are we here?' she turned to me, her eyes wide open. I raised the bag at eyes height, 'Okay, cool, a bag? Thanks, Mr. Ducky,' she laughed and grabbed the bag off me, opening it. Her eyes shot back to me, 'No way!' 'Yes way!''What are we waiting for?!' Excited, we both carefully walked through the snow and over to a rock, we both sat down and pulled out the two pairs of ice skates. 'Here, let me.' I said as I knelt down in front of her and helped her take off her shoes. 'I can do it myself, you know? I'm not as childish as you think!' she smiled.'Yeah, yeah. I know, I just want to help you!' I grinned at her with my eyes closed before slipping the ice skates on, I did one lace as she did the other. 'It's been forever,' she sighed, 'I didn't think we would ever come back here. But it's nice, I'm glad.' She smiled down at me.'Why wouldn't we come back here? We met here!' I beamed up at her glowing face. 'But you- uh, you know the story!' She laughed. She was right, we didn't meet under the best circumstances, but we met, and that was it. That's all I cared about on that day. I got back up and put my skates on, she waited on the ice before taking my hand. She took the lead and pulled me from behind, she was much better at skating than I was, but that didn't stop me from racing in front and spinning around to face her. 'You're a lot better than the first time,' she said with a giggle, 'have you been practicing?' 'Maybe I have,' I said as I circled her, 'maybe I haven't!' She laughed and shot ahead of me, the lake was big. I chased behind her trying to keep my balance. 'You can't catch me Mr. Duck!' she teased, looking back at me struggling, 'You do realize you need to glide and not run, Taehyung!' 'I know that!' I said as I began to glide along the ice, and tried not to actually run.Minutes later, puffed, and out of breath, we both met in the middle. She skated towards me and I caught her, stopping her from moving any further. Our arms lowered and I placed my hand in my right pocket, lightly rubbing against the small box. 'Thank you, Taehyung. This was a really nice surprise,' she whispered, 'even though I'm freezing!' she laughed and lightly punched my arm. I pretended to slip, acting like her punch actually did some damage. 'Whoa, whoa, whoa! I could've fallen over and-' A loud bang in the distance thundered and a sharp pain stung my head, sending waves of numbness throughout my body. The last thing I saw was her horrified face which shattered my heart, I couldn't care less about the pain I felt, I just wanted her to be safe. But my wish for her safety was short lived as I fell into complete and utter darkness.- Taehyung’s POV-'The surgery was successful, but...' I heard a man’s voice speak through a loud ringing in my ears. I moved my head as an attempt to stretch but the pain was back and shot through my body. I groaned and slowly began to open my eyes. They creaked apart and a bright light filled my view, stunned, I shielded my eyes with my hand. I was finally out of the darkness. My eyes traveled around the room and rested on a girl standing at the end of my bed talking to a doctor, she was crying and covering her face. The doctor noticed my movements and rushed to my side. 'Kim Taehyung, yes?' 'Yes, that's me,' I answered, confused, 'W-what happened?' 'You were in an accident. A hunter in the area you were in mistook your duck beanie for a real duck. You have been in a coma for two days, but we've been keeping an eye on you so there's nothing to worry about.' The doctor smiled and trailed on but I zoned out and stared at the girl who was sobbing at the other side of my room. I didn't know her, she was a mess and I didn't want her in my room. 'Excuse me, but who is she?' I asked quietly. 'Oh,' the doctor began, 'I assume she is a friend of yours? She's been here for the whole three days, even sleeping by your side.' I shook my head, 'I've never seen her before.'- Seulgi's POV-'I've never seen her before.' Taehyung spoke as he shook his head and stared at me with a confused look. Tears streamed down my face. It felt like a dream, a never ending dream. My mind was hazy, my eyes were heavy, I felt weak, as if the whole world was crumbling beneath my feet. I grabbed my coat and left, I didn't even want to explain to him that we are together, that we were together. 'Miss?' the doctor said as he followed me out the door, closing it behind him. 'It's going to take some time for him to remember everything.' 'Is there anything you can do?' I said through sobs, I didn't want to talk. 'No, we have prescribed him with pills to ease the pain and suggest he speak to an occupational therapist. But what you can do is to spend time with him, help him remember what was lost, re-live your memories with him, show him pictures and videos of what his personality was like before the accident. This is the best advice I can give to you.' He cared. I could see that he cared, but there wasn't anything medication could do to help get Taehyung's memory back. 'Thank you.' I said as I forced a smile through tears and walked away. I couldn't stand straight, all I wanted to do was fall, I was unaware of the fast paced world that surrounded me. I felt so disconnected from life, everyone was moving so fast but I stayed still, frozen in time and unable to escape. My thoughts carried me away, I didn't realize the group of boys running straight towards me. 'Excuse us!' One boy said as he lightly pushed me to the side in a hurry. I snapped out of my dazed state and crashed into one of the boys, I fell back but he caught me in time. 'Sorry!' He apologized, I was in shock, and frightened. 'Oh, Seulgi, it's you!' He helped me back on my feet, 'is he okay? Is he awake yet?' 'Jin... Yeah, he's awake.''Why aren't you with him?' He asked, concerned. 'H-he,' I choked, 'he doesn't remember me.' My eyes watered once more, tears flowed down my cheeks and Jin pulled me close to him in a hug, 'A part of his brain was punctured by the bullet, some of his memories are gone and there's a possibility that his personality has changed as well.' I said between sobs and heavy breathing.'Come,' he said as he let go and grabbed my hand, leading me back to his room, 'we need to explain everything.' 'No!' I cried, pulling my hand away from his, 'he won't believe us, it's just better if I stay away right now.' 'Are you sure?' He asked, I nodded and began to turn around. He lightly gripped my arm and spun me back to face him. 'We'll talk to him. Maybe it's best to let him adjust to everything right now, but we will talk to him about you.' I wriggled my arm out of his hand, forced a smile, and left. I could feel Taehyung falling away from me.- Seulgi's POV –I lay in bed, thinking too hard, too fast, and too much. I couldn't handle feeling this way, my life slowly drained from my body, I just wanted everything to be back to normal again. After days of refusing, I grabbed my phone from my bedside table and noticed the endless texts from the boys, and 27 missed calls from Jin. Scrolling through the unread messages which I had no desire to answer I spotted one from him. "I'll be there soon, love you." Tears welled and forced their way out. It was the last text he sent me, which was on the day of the accident. Then it hit me. He needs to check his phone! After he reads our messages he has to remember! He has to... Without thinking I jumped from my bed and paced, dialing Jin's number. My breath hung as I awaited his answer. 'It's been a week! Where have you been?!' his voice spoke with a hint of anger, but mostly concern. 'I'm sorry, but I have an idea!'- Jin's POV –I hung up and turned back to the boys. Surprisingly enough Taehyung remembered us all, even the words to every song, including the dance moves. It's like he had just forgotten about her.'Taehyung, do you remember the girl who was in your room when you woke up?' I asked, staring him dead in the eye with my brows furrowed. 'Yeah, I remember her. Her hair was a mess, and her makeup was terrible.' he spat. This was not right. Not right at all, before the accident he would have never said anything like that to her. He loved her so damn much we had to keep their whole relationship from the company and the fans, if the company had found out, he would've been cut. 'How could you say that? She's your girlfriend!' I yelled, stepping back. His expression changed. 'You're joking right? I could never be with a girl like her.' He laughed, uneasy. 'But you are! Well, at least you were?' I couldn't believe this was happening, not only did he lose his memory of her, but he changed his whole perception of her, his whole idea of her, just, everything. 'The doctor said I need to do everything I used to do before, I've sung, rapped, and danced, I can name you all and remember memories of us perfectly fine. But I think I would like to just....not remember her. Why is that so hard to understand? I'm fine with how I am now, I don't need a girlfriend when I have our fans and shows to focus on.''You can't just do that!! Seulgi is your entire life! You are so damn head over heels for her that you put yourself and her at risk!' I yelled, I just wanted to slap him out of his new mindset and return him back to normal. I shot him a look of disgust, he rolled his eyes and pulled a face. The doctor wasn't joking when he said that his personality could change slightly, he was a total douche bag now.I stormed out of the room in frustration and anger, I didn't want to face him like this. Something definitely had to be done.- Jimin's POV- I watched as Jin left the room, slamming the door behind him. We were all frustrated, but kept our calm for Taehyung's sake, and sanity. We didn't know the extent to his personality change, and didn't want to get him angry enough to find out.'He's right, you know. You two really did love each other.' I whispered with my head lowered. 'It's just hard to believe, I've been through a lot this past week, trying to remember basic things. I just need a break, I don't want to be forced to love someone who...' he trailed, 'I don't love.' 'I don't love.' Those blunt words hit me like a tons of bricks. He really didn't love her anymore. As much as I wanted them together again, it just seemed like it would never happen. But none of us wanted to give up that easily. 'We should practice, shouldn't we?' Taehyung asked as he began to stand up, we all exchanged looks. 'Yeah, let’s practice...' I nodded. We had been practicing ever since he was well enough to, it's like it was all he only wanted to do. He spoke about the fans and performances like it was his whole life, of course he loved to perform for the fans but the way he spoke about them now just seemed like it was all he cared about.-Seulgi's POV-'He what?' I asked even though I heard him perfectly clear. 'I'm not repeating myself again,' Jin said, we sat on the floor of my room. He had driven over to tell me everything. We were best friends, even before Taehyung and I were together, everyone thought I would end up with Jin but our friendship couldn't be anything more than just friends.'We need to convince him, somehow, to at least try to remember you. Just him reading the texts you two sent wouldn't be enough to convince him. Not with the personality he has now.' 'The doctor did say we need to re-live our memories,' I said as the times we spent together reeled inside my head, 'but he doesn't even want to be around me.' 'Well, the day he woke up...you really were a mess, and I think that threw him off a little.' he said humorously. Despite the empty feeling inside, I shot him a warm smile and sipped the hot chocolate he had made me. 'Yeah... I did look pretty tragic, didn't I?' I laughed. 'You need to write down everything you two have ever done together, remember the feelings you both felt, remember the conversations you two shared, just remember everything about those moments,' He said as he gripped my shoulders lightly and looked me in the eye. 'You're going to need them.'- Jin's POV –For hours we thought and planned. Since we didn't want the media to find out about their relationship, every single photo they ever took together was printed then deleted and stored where only they knew where. No way could Taehyung have kept them at the company dorm we stayed at, so they were always kept at her house. After writing down all the memories she could remember of the moments they spent together she stood up and reached deep into her closet which was full of unfolded clothes, loosely hung dresses and coats. Before the accident she was a neat freak, admitted to being lazy, but always a neat freak. This accident was really taking a toll on her, and it was sorely obvious. ‘Here are all the photos we took together.' she said as she sat back down and opened the pristine white box. I leaned closer as she spread them out on the carpet. I laughed and noticed a picture of me, 'Hey! When did you take this?!' it was a selca of them with me sleeping.'That was when we had a game night! And you guys helped me sneak into the dorm,' she explained, 'it was before him and I were dating.' she frowned. 'I remember that night...we walked you out and got snapped when we returned!' I laughed, smiling at her. She smiled back but kept her eyes on the photos. My eyes traveled from photograph to photograph, selcas, pictures of their twined hands, date pictures of them at restaurants, carnivals, theme parks, so many memories lying before me. I just couldn't get my mind around the fact that he forgot about all of this, it just felt unreal.‘Here are little notes we wrote to each other as well, and the diary he wrote in each day after we met,' she held it in her hands, 'he gave it to me a month after we started dating.' 'A diary?' my mind reeled back to all the times I had found him with his nose in a book, writing, 'So that's what he was doing. We thought he was just writing lyrics! But he was writing about you. I would suggest we get him to read the diary, but it might be all too much for him.' I could tell I struck a chord on her broken heart, she quickly wiped away the drops and brought a tissue to her face. I noticed the ground beside her bed was littered with used tissues, I frowned. It hurt me knowing she was in pain. 'What's the first photo you took together? Let's start there.'- The next day – 'Taehyung! Wake your butt up right now!' I yelled and slammed his door with my fist. 'Chill, I'm already awake. What's gotten into you?' he said as he opened the door and stepped out, shaking his hair. 'Me? What's gotten into you? You're different now.' I said lightly, trying not to make him angry that I was dragging this on, but I had to. I had to get some sense into him. 'I don't feel any different.' he shrugged and began walking off, to get breakfast I assumed. 'Just listen to me please,' I said and lightly held his shoulder, 'I want you to meet someone.' 'Oh yeah? Who?' He shook off my hand. 'Your girlfriend.' 'Why can't you just let it go? I'm fine without her, I don't even know her anymore and that doesn't bother me.' he spoke like it was totally fine.'Please. Just give her a chance, the doctor said you have to re-live all your memories.' His eyes left mine, he bit his lip and stared at the ground in thought. I was surprised that he was actually thinking about it.'Fine. I'll meet her.' he said and returned his eyes to mine, I began to see his old self seeping back through his eyes. Not fully, but he was still there, locked inside his own mind waiting to be set free.- Seulgi's POV –'He said yes!' Jin said over the phone, I could hear the excitement in his voice. 'You're lying!' I was stunned. 'Honestly, I would not, in any way, lie to you. Especially about this!' he assured me. I was excited, but worried. 'I'm scared, Jin,' my voice shook, 'I'm nervous, I don't think I can do this.' 'You can, don't worry, we'll be there. It'll be just like when you two first met.' I took a deep breath, my heart fluttered and almost took flight from the bottomless pit in which it fell. When we first met. - Flashback two years – It was midday. The air was cold, it was the start of winter and the frost didn't take its time to greet the world. The thin layers of frost crunched lightly beneath my shoes, the sound was entertaining and soothing. I didn't keep track of where I was going, or how long I've been gone for, but no one seemed to notice. My phone was silent, no incoming texts or calls. I was completely alone in bliss. I had my earphones in, Clair De Lune by Debussy kept me calm, made me feel safe. The lands before me had a light cover of frost and snow, white and blue, beautiful. Trees extended far into the sky and swayed with every breath of the wind, I watched as my icy breath escaped and drifted away into the air. As I drifted deeper into the frosty woods I closed my eyes and let my feet carry me. I knew the path was clear, so I knew I wouldn't trip. My arms raised and floated by my side, my fingers tapped the trees as if they were piano keys. 'Hey!' a voice yelled, I opened my eyes and lowered my arms before spinning around in a complete circle. No one was there, but I swore I heard something. 'Hey!' I heard it again, I pulled my earphones out and extended my view. Through the thick branches I saw a crack in the ice of a lake, and a boy. Quickly stuffing my earphones messily into my pocket I ran, the trees were close together, I wouldn't have noticed the lake was there at all if it wasn't for him.'What are you doing!' I yelled. 'I-I need help! The ice cracked, I can't get out! It keeps breaking!' he yelled back in a panic. I took off my thick coat and placed it on a nearby rock. 'Wait! I'm coming! Don't move!' I gently walked out onto the ice before spreading out my body mass to make sure the ice wouldn't crack anymore. His lips were blue, his hair was soaked, and his teeth chattered. I reached out my hands which soon connected with his. 'Careful now,' I said as I lightly began to pull him out, 'Gently.' I bit my lip in concentration, his body slowly emerged from the freezing cold water, I slid back making sure the buildup of our mass didn't put too much pressure on the ice. 'Th-thank you.' he said through his chattering teeth. 'We aren't safe until we're on solid ground, come on.' I said, beginning to shiver.I let go of his hands and the two of us slithered back to the thick ice on the edges of the lake, I pushed my body up and got back onto my feet, helping him to his feet as well. I quickly grabbed my jacket and slipped each of his arms into the sleeves before zipping it up.'You can thank me now.' I smiled, he forced a laugh. 'Thanks!' he smiled, closing his eyes. Despite what had just happened, he didn't seem worried at all. 'You do realize it's far too early in the winter to be on the ice?' I said with a sarcastic tone as we began walking through the thick trees and back into the clear.'I wish someone had told me that before I stepped on the lake!' he laughed, I could sense his humor. 'Why are you alone anyway?' I asked, curious. 'I could ask you the same thing.' he said as he shot me a cheeky smile. Moments after walking through the icy, untouched wasteland we made it back to the opening where his car was. He began to unzip my jacket. 'No no, you keep it, you're wet and cold. I don't want you getting sick.' I said as I stopped him. 'I guess we'll just have to meet again, then.' he smiled. 'I guess we will.' Although it was cold, I could feel the warmth between us.- Seulgi's POV –The nerves began to settle in, my hands shook and my bottom lip quivered. I was dead nervous. 'Try to be calm,' Jin spoke over the phone trying to soothe me, 'everything will be fine. He's been a little arrogant lately, but he will come around. He has to.' Everything will be fine. His words rung and repeated in my ears. I took a deep breath and exhaled for what seemed like forever. I closed my eyes and concentrated on the rise and fall of my chest and the beating of my heart. I pulled out the photo of Taehyung and I, the first time we met that wasn't in a freezing cold lake, and it was a selca of us holding our frozen yogurt. He had told me I couldn't post the photo anywhere online, I asked why and told me it was because he was a trainee for a company. I didn't believe him at first. 'We're almost there, I'm hanging up now okay? See you soon.' The line went dead and I waited. I remembered what I wore that day, a new black winter coat with a long sleeve dark red dress which hugged my body, stockings as well as my light winter boots topped off with a black scarf and my hair in a bun. I looked down at the photo once again. I remembe
