Yoonmi Choi Trio

Yoonmi Choi is a young Korean jazz pianist who started playing the piano at the age of 3.
At first she learned to play classic music, as she grew she became more and more interested in music, so she decided to go to the Inchon Music High School.
During her high school period, she won the 2nd prize at the Donga Composition Competition and the 3rd prize at the Jusung University Classical Music Competition. After her graduation, she got in the prestigious Sookmyung Women University in Seoul as classical piano student. She also performed with different bands in other countries: Japan, Phillipines and China.
She was also admitted at the top jazz college Dong-ah Institute of Media and Arts in South Korea, where she graduated a few years later. During that time she won the 1st prize at the Calvin College Jazz Competition, the 2nd prize at the Hoseo University CCM Competition and got the opportunity to be introduced to the faculty of Prins Claus Consevatorium in the Netherlands, where, for three years, she got lessons from famous jazz pianists such as David Berkman, Jasper Soffers and Marc van Roon.
With her band Yoonmi Choi Trio, she is finalist of the Dordtse Jazz Prijs 2012 in Dodrecht, the Netherlands, where she received many congratulations from the jury for her compositions, technique and touch.
The rhythm section of the band is formed by American bass player Tyler Luppi and Slovenian drummer Primoz Podobnik.
The Yoonmi Choi Trio is playing in many clubs and jazz festivals in the Netherlands, Germany and Korea; besides, it recently recorded its first EP.
