He knocked the chair off in the dining room when he stood up abruptly. He cant believe what he just heard."Sit down." She commanded in a tone you wouldnt wish to hear. His mother, Kim Jae Jin, was a significant figure in Korean politics. A lawyer by profession, she entered politics after winning one case after another in the span of barely three years after she left law school. Sung Min knew she was vying for a key position in the Parliament soon. The first step in securing that position was to remove everyone that gets in the way. And that includes him, her only son. "You will do what I say, Sung Min-ah. Even if I have to drag you there, Ill do it!" She declared harshly.Sung Min trembled a little. He wondered if hell be able to overcome his fear towards his mother. Hes turning twenty in two weeks but he still cowers in a corner whenever she raises her voice at him. It was disgusting really but he cant help it. "B-but how about what I want? Isnt that important?""Dont let me answer that." She retorted and pushed her plate, indicating that she was done with her meal as well as with the conversation. "Youre leaving right after this semester. Soo Hyun will arrange everything for you." With that, she left him without so much as a glance. His knuckles were paper white from holding the utensils too tightly. Ever since he can remember, image would come first in this household. The reason why his sister Young Ae left and never came back.His mother just cant stand her dumb son so she was sending him to a goddamn forsaken place. Well, how could she not? She wouldnt fail to give nasty remarks about his interest for music. Telling him point blank that he wouldnt get anywhere with it. How she wished hes as intelligent as Young Ae or as ambitious as his late father, a top businessman. But his leaning was towards music. And he wasnt the best in it either. What a disgrace to the Lee family!The excuse of learning good English was just too perfect for her not to introduce an imbecile as her son during parties and events that she hosts regularly. He can imagine her saying, "Oh, Sung Min-ahs studying abroad, that child." Followed by an educated chuckle and her superficial friends, as if on queue, would turn green in envy.And him, Lee Sung Min, would be facing doom in a month. He wondered if he would have the courage to defy her this time. But how? He didnt have enough savings and he wont trust himself to get a decent job.
